What Is Reiki Drum?
Introduction
Reiki Drum Technique is a unique blend of Reiki energy and the therapeutic power of rhythmic drumming. It is a deeply transformative practice that supports healing on a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual level. Steady, rhythmic drumming carries Reiki energy deep into the body and energy field. The vibrations help to break up stagnant energy and release blockages, while the Reiki energy restores balance and supports healing. Many people experience deep relaxation, emotional release, enhanced clarity, energetic alignment, spiritual insight, and relief from physical tension.
Background
Reiki Drum Technique is a relatively modern development within the wider Reiki tradition. It was created in the late 1990s by Michael Arthur Baird, an American Reiki Master who explored how rhythmic drumming could deepen relaxation, shift brainwave states, and enhance the flow of Reiki energy. His work demonstrated that combining steady drumming with Reiki created a powerful method for clearing stagnant energy, accessing the subconscious mind, and supporting emotional and spiritual healing.
The technique was brought to the UK in 2007 by Sarah Gregg, a Reiki Master Teacher who trained directly with Michael Baird. Sarah went on to teach and share the method widely, helping it become an established part of the Reiki community in the UK. My own training continues this lineage. I was taught by a practitioner who trained directly with Sarah Gregg, allowing me to honour the roots of the technique while bringing my own intuitive, heart-led approach to each session.
Reiki Drum Methods
Introduction
There are three different Reiki Drum methods, each chosen based on your preferences, intentions, and needs. Every session begins with setting an intention to anchor your focus and guide the healing process. Reiki Drum can be experienced in a one‑to‑one or group setting. One-to-one sessions end with 'hands on' Reiki to integrate the healing.
Reiki Drum healing
Reiki Drum healing combines intuitive rhythmic drumming with the gentle flow of Reiki energy to deliver a deep, restorative treatment. The drumming helps to break up stagnant or blocked energy, creating space for healing and balance. The rhythm encourages the mind to settle, allowing you to enter a deeply relaxed, receptive state. Reiki soothes the nervous system, integrates energetic shifts, and supports a sense of grounding and wholeness. This treatment is ideal if you’re seeking emotional release, energetic clearing, or support with specific areas of imbalance.
Reiki Drum mental and emotional reprogramming
This method blends intuitive drumming with carefully chosen positive affirmations to support mental and emotional transformation. The steady rhythm of the drum helps quiet the conscious mind, making the subconscious more open and receptive. Affirmations are introduced to help shift unhelpful patterns, strengthen new intentions, and support clarity, confidence, and focus. Reiki anchors the new energetic imprint and encourages integration. This approach is particularly supportive if you’re working to release old habits, cultivate healthier thought patterns, or align with specific goals.
Reiki Drum journey
A Reiki Drum journey guides you into a meditative or trance‑like state through rhythmic drumming, supported by the flow of Reiki energy. The altered state of awareness allows you to access your subconscious mind, inner wisdom, and intuitive guidance. Insights, imagery, sensations, or emotions may arise as blockages release and deeper layers of healing unfold. Reiki helps to hold the journey in a safe, supportive energetic container, assisting with integration and grounding afterwards. This technique is exceptionally empowering and healing on all levels – physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. It’s important to enter the journey without expectations and remain open to whatever arises for your highest good.
Session guide
What is the difference between a one-to-one and a group Reiki Drum session?
A one‑to‑one Reiki Drum session offers a deeply personal and introspective experience. The drumming and Reiki energy are tailored to your intentions, preferences, sensitivities, and needs. The session can focus on particular themes or areas of imbalance, and the pace and intensity of the journey are shaped entirely around your healing process. This setting allows for a heightened state of relaxation, inner awareness, and energetic release.
A group Reiki Drum session is less personalised, but the shared energy of the group creates a powerful sense of unity and connection. The collective resonance can deepen the trance‑like state and amplify the insights and healing that arise. Group journeys also offer the chance to connect with others who share an interest in holistic wellbeing. Private group sessions can be tailored to the group’s needs and intentions, and group work is often more accessible and affordable.
Whether you choose a one‑to‑one or group session depends on your preferences, your needs, and the type of experience you’re seeking on your healing journey. Both offer unique benefits for your wellbeing. You can visit the Services page to explore the healing sessions I offer.
How will I feel during and after a Reiki Drum session?
Reiki and sound healing help you reconnect with your innate healing potential, and the process unfolds at your own pace. Most people feel deeply relaxed during and after a session. When the body relaxes, the nervous system softens, the immune system is supported, and the body becomes more able to heal itself. Your openness and willingness to engage with your own healing can gently shape how the experience unfolds.
Many people report an expanded state of awareness, especially during quieter moments of the session. Clients often describe seeing colours, images, or memories; feeling sensations such as heat, coolness, stomach gurgling, twitches, tingling, ripples of energy, or a floaty sensation; or experiencing emotional release such as tears or joy. These are all natural signs of energetic movement and rebalancing.
Reiki and sound healing can influence the whole being – physical, emotional, and mental. After sessions, clients have reported reduced pain, hormonal shifts, improved sleep, increased energy, a brighter mood, and a greater sense of empowerment. While most people have a positive experience, deeper emotions may occasionally surface, such as sadness, grief, or old memories. As the body clears stagnant energy, temporary sensations like headaches, aches, dizziness, or nausea can also occur.
I hold a safe, supportive space for anything that arises during your session. You are always welcome to share what you’re experiencing, and you will never be rushed or judged. At the same time, it’s important that you feel ready for positive change and have the appropriate support around you afterwards, especially if strong emotions surface.
After a session, there will be a period of gentle integration. For some people, old symptoms or emotions may briefly reappear as the body clears stagnant energy, and occasionally things may feel a little more intense before they settle. This is a natural part of the rebalancing process and usually lasts 2–3 days. During this time, drinking plenty of water and resting when you can will support your system as it recalibrates. If you live with mental health challenges and find that difficult emotions linger after a session, please reach out to your doctor or mental health professional for additional support.
How often should I experience Reiki Drum?
Reiki and sound healing is an individual experience, so there’s no set number of sessions you should have. Many clients prefer monthly sessions, while others come more or less frequently – it’s completely personal. Most people find that more than one session is helpful, as healing unfolds gradually and the body often needs time to return to balance. Regular sessions can support momentum, integration, and ongoing wellbeing, especially during times of stress or transition. Ultimately, your intuition is the best guide. Come whenever you feel drawn; your system will let you know when it’s time. Because Reiki and sound healing continues to integrate after a session, it’s not recommended to attend more than one session within the same week.
Safety & Suitability
Is Reiki Drum safe and suitable for everyone?
Because Reiki Drum sessions work with similar energetic principles to Reiki and Sound Healing, the same safety and suitability guidance applies. You can find full details on those pages. If you’re unsure whether a Reiki Drum session is appropriate for you, I’m always happy to talk things through.
